Book With Confidence Using Access4all Website

As the extended long weekend approaches and the Christmas break hovers just around the corner, the holiday spirit is instinctively kicking in. To help us decide where to go for our summer vacation Richard Fanselowhas designed the access4all website www.access4all.co.nz which features “Accommodation & Activities for people with reduced mobility.”

“Book with Confidence, Stay in Comfort, and Enjoy Yourself” promotes the website and Richard has certainly made a promising start. This web designer has travelled throughout NZ and overseas in his wheelchair during the past 14 years so he has the credentials to make informed observations.

As its a new website the accommodation listings are limited but his work so far has been impressive. The outstanding feature is that all the listings come with extensive use of photography. Clear photos of the bathroom, bedroom and entrances give the holiday planner with reduced mobility a better idea of true access and he/she no longer has to take the word of the inexperienced accommodation manager.

Russell’s Commodores Lodge looks rather classy with its queen bed in one room and either 2 single beds or super king bed in the second bedroom. Separate bathroom with disabled facilities is available (bit dubious about upstairs though!!!) and if you are keen on the activity of whale watching Kaikoura has several disability options. The Mediterranean Motel has 2 accessible units, Quality Suites Kaikoura have has all studios on the flat ground floor level with two being accessible. The others studios have "easy access" with low step entry and cubicle showers and Kaikoura Top 10 Holiday Park also have easy access to their units.

However, it’s not such good news for the whale watch activity itself as safety restrictions prevent people boarding the vessels if they are unable to walk unassisted

Looking forward to seeing how access4all develops.
