An Expo To Make Life Easier

The must visit Show Your Ability Expo 2015 is on again in February. The expo starts in Auckland on the 24 th February and travels down to Hamilton (25 th) Palmerston North (26 th) and in March it visits Christchurch (2 nd) and finishes in Dunedin (3 rd). As per usual it will be full of the latest technological inventions and innovations. Beds will tilt every which way, motorised wheelchairs will demonstrate another top speed and there is bound to be a surprise product gem or two that will make your life that little bit easier. Of course all the stalls will be managed by knowledgeable people with insights on how best to use their products.

This year’s Expo has a unique twist to it as its offering half hour workshop sessions into developments and advances in a variety of fields.

The most interesting workshop, to our members, would be the sessions hosted by Enable New Zealand which offers advice to individual regions. For instance in Hamilton it will give EMS Advice and discuss the prioritisation tool. In Palmerston North the topics are how to access funding for pressure care equipment, clinical reasoning using the clinical practice guidelines for assessment and prevention and management of pressure injuries.

In Christchurch discussion will centre around the benefits and challenges of the Canterbury Lifelong Design Advisory Service for residents in the Canterbury Region and in Dunedin the use of lying supports for clients with cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis will be demonstrated using case studies, including the evidence base, international classification of function and equipment solutions.
